What is the Fear of God? Does it mean we are in danger of judgment when we come into His presence? Does God inspire terror? Do we obey God because we hope to escape His wrath and discipline, or obey him because His Love is perfected in our heart (1 John 2:5)? Is the fear of God a noun or a verb?
Let’s investigate from the scriptures.
When Christ stepped in, he stood sponsor for us, and in the stead of all men. He did pay our ransom, that he might deliver us from the curse of the law and the demand of justice, so that we can go our way, clean, free, and justified by his blood. The debt and ransom were paid, all at once. Christ did it thoroughly; he did not leave a single debt unpaid. The sacrifice was an absolute absolution and acquittal-a perfect sacrifice that paid for all the debt of every and any sin.
